Choosing to See by Mary Beth Chapman
From the beginning, Mary Beth Chapman's life was not how she planned. All she wanted was a calm, peaceful life of stability and control. Instead, God gave her an award-winning singer/songwriter husband, crazy schedules, and a houseful of creatively rambunctious children. Most difficult of all, God's plans for her also included tragedy.
In Choosing to SEE, Mary Beth unveils her struggle to allow God to write the story of her life, both the happy chapters and the tragic ones. And as the story unfolds, she's been forced to wrestle with some of life's biggest questions: Where is God when things fall apart? Why does God allow terrible things to happen? How can I survive hard times?
No matter where you find yourself in your own life story, you will treasure the way Mary Beth shows that even in the hard times, there is hope if you choose to SEE.

Mary Beth Chapman is an amazing woman of God, and she tells her personal life story in Choosing to See. Her battle with self image and depression is painfully honest and vulnerable in a way that is rarely shown. Broken hearted by tragedy, and devastated by the loss of their precious little daughter Maria, Mary Beth still was able to reach out to those around her in grace and humility. Even in the midst of her own sorrow, she cries out to God for healing and wholeness for her other five children and their extensive group of friends and family.
This tender story of the Chapman family brought tears to my eyes many times, and it is hard to imagine the pain that this family has been through. Even while exposing their unbelievable grief and their broken hearts to others ... they still held fast to their faith as they look forward to seeing their little angel Maria in heaven some day.
I can't recommend this book highly enough, it is a story that is both heartbreaking and inspirational. If you get a chance to read Choosing to See, please do it. Your heart will be touched, and you may even see a small glimpse of heaven through the eyes of a little girl named Maria.
