Christmas at Harrington's by Melody Carlson

Sometimes the best gift is a second chance

Christmas is approaching, and Lena Markham finds herself penniless, friendless, and nearly hopeless. She is trying to restart her life, but job opportunities are practically nonexistent. When a secondhand red coat unexpectedly lands her a job as Mrs. Santa at a department store, Lena finally thinks her luck is changing. But can she keep her past a secret?

Reading Christmas at Harrington's, a story full of redemption and true holiday spirit, will be your newest Christmas tradition.

Last weekend we celebrated our family Christmas, so Christmas Eve tonight at our house was a very quiet one.  It was a perfect time to curl up with a new Christmas book, and I was thrilled to have the opportunity to read Christmas at Harrington's.

Lena is trying to escape from her past, and she finds herself alone, unemployed and desperate for a job in an unfamiliar town just weeks before Christmas.  She hopes for a fresh start, and is excited when she lands a job as Mrs. Santa.  Unfortunately the job brings her more exposure than she is prepared for.

This little book was a delight from cover to cover.  The character of Lena (aka Mrs. Santa) was believable and the heart-wrenching details of her past follow her to her new home.  Some of her new friends welcomed her with love and graciousness, while others were hurtful and cruel.

Christmas at Harrington's is a great book that is sure to become a holiday tradition in our family. If you get a chance to pick up this book for the holidays, you won't be disappointed.
