I had the pleasure of reading Love on a Dime a couple of weeks ago, and was eagerly looking forward to Love on Assignment, the second novel in the "Ladies of Summerhill" series.
Charlotte's long-term aspiration was to become a reporter for a local newspaper, but she found herself stuck as a secretary with no chance for advancement. When she was approached by her boss to go undercover working as a governess for a professor of religion, she jumped at the chance. Her explicit directions were to find something that would discredit the professor and eventually stop him from writing a controversial religious column in a rival newspaper.
This book dramatically contrasts the wealthy and working classes in the early 1900's. Desperately trying to support her crippled sister and her elderly aunt, Charlotte would do almost anything to provide for her family. Her own employment was in jeopardy if she refused to follow orders.
Charlotte had no idea that her temporary assignment as a governess would ultimately change her personal relationship with God. She soon became protective of the professor and his family, rather than trying to find proof to discredit him.
This book is filled with great characters and an inspirational message that everyone should enjoy.
