Made to Crave by Lysa Terkeurst

Just because a woman finally fits into her skinny jeans doesn't mean she's won her battle with food. Too often, women overlook the spiritual component to their physical struggle with healthy eating. Made to Crave taps into the desires God gave you to consume food without letting food consume you!

Made to Crave is the missing link between a woman's desire to be healthy and the spiritual empowerment necessary to make that happen. The reality is we were made to crave. Craving isn't a bad thing. But we must realize God created us to crave more of him. Many of us have misplaced that craving by overindulging in physical pleasures instead of lasting spiritual satisfaction. If you are struggling with unhealthy eating habits, you can break the "I'll start again Monday" cycle, and start feeling good about yourself today. Learn to stop beating yourself up over the numbers on the scale. Discover that your weight loss struggle isn't a curse but rather a blessing in the making, and replace justifications that lead to diet failure with empowering go-to scripts that lead to victory. You can reach your healthy weight goal - and grow closer to God in the process. This is not a how-to book. This is not the latest and greatest dieting plan. This book is the necessary companion for you to use alongside whatever healthy lifestyle plan you choose. This is a book and Bible study to help you find the "want to" in making healthy lifestyle choices. 224 pages. Companion Bible study DVD set also available. http://madetocrave.org/purchase-resources/

"We were made for more than this. More than this failure, more than this cycle, more than being ruled by taste buds. We were made for victory. Sometimes we just have to find our way to that truth."  {p. 49}

Lysa Terkeurst has developed a simple yet effective plan that may just be the solution I was looking for. She talks about how it is natural to have cravings, and I found this very reassuring. The problem starts when we think our deepest desires can be satisfied by "things" (very commonly food), when we ultimately need to change our focus to crave God above all else.

Made to Crave is not a diet book, but it can be used in conjunction with any healthy diet and exercise program. The focus of this great little book is that we can't do it on our own, we need God's help.

This book could have been written just for me. I have struggled with virtually everything that Lysa talks about in this book. It was like having huge mirrors on all sides of me, and I couldn't look away.

I struggle with letting go of the things that I crave. I don't want to give up the "sweet and salties". I rationalize and say that I work hard every day, so why shouldn't I have the treats that I love?

This book has spoken loud and clear to me. In order to have the deep and personal relationship that I want with God, I have to be willing to give up my earthly cravings and instead focus on the only One that can truly satisfy.

I loved the personal reflection questions at the end of each chapter, even though it was very hard to truthfully answer all of them. The many scriptures used throughout the book are also listed at the back of the book for easy reference.

I need to start over at the beginning and read this book over, again and again. The journey to lose pounds and maintain a healthy weight is a tough one, and this book is filled with the tools needed to succeed ... along the way!

"I'm not on a diet. I'm on a journey with Jesus." {p.158}

  1. I'm reading this book, too...and I am seeing so much of me in Ms. Lysa's words. It took me many years to finally get my weight off (still have about 10-12 lbs to go)....but until I completely let go and let God...it just didn't happen. I'm so grateful to HIM for leading me in a healthier direction!!! And...I give HIM all the glory for every ounce lost!!! ;)

  2. Sounds like a must read when the time is right :)
