A Heart Renewed by Karen Baney

Headstrong. Unconventional. Until life turns upside down…

Julia Colter struggles to accept life under her controlling brother’s greed. The suitors he selects would benefit him, but are far from the ideal husband for her. When her rebellion against her brother puts her life at risk, she turns to her friend for help.

Adam Larson longs to train horses and plans to head west to the Arizona Territory to see his dreams fulfilled. When his sister’s best friend shows up in the middle of the night, he agrees to help her flee. The decision changes his life, in more ways than he expected.

Can Julia forget the pain from her past and open her heart to love?

Karen Baney, in addition to writing Christian historical fiction and chick lit novels, works as a Software Engineer. Spending over twenty years as an avid fan of both genres, Karen debuts her talents with A Dream Unfolding, the first in a four book series set in territorial Arizona.

Her faith plays an important role both in her life and in her writing. She is active in the women’s ministry at her church, facilitating numerous bible studies throughout the year. Karen and her husband make their home in Gilbert, Arizona, with their two dogs. She also holds a Masters of Business Administration from Arizona State University.

Karen Baney is becoming one of my favourite authors!  I read the first book in the Prescott Pioneers series titled A Dream Unfolding last month, and loved it!  When I had the opportunity to read book two in the series, I jumped at the chance.

While a continuation of the first book, A Heart Renewed could be enjoyed as a stand-alone.  The story begins at the family ranch in Texas in 1864.  Reuben, Will and Julia's lives were drastically changed when their father died.  He named Reuben as the guardian of Julia, but it may have been a huge mistake.  Will left Texas to begin his own ranch in Arizona, yet he always felt bad about leaving his sister behind.

When situations get totally out of control in Texas, Julia is forced to leave in the middle of the night and she heads to Arizona to the safety of her favourite brother.  Julia has a difficult time dealing with her painful past and she doesn't think she deserves happiness and a normal life.

Forgiveness is a key dynamic of this inspirational story.  A Heart Renewed clearly demonstrates the importance of forgiveness ... not just for the person who has caused the pain, but also for the person who has been hurt.

For anyone who loves historical romantic fiction based in a western setting, consider checking out The Prescott Pioneers series by Karen Baney. You won't be disappointed!

Disclosure: I received a complimentary copy of this book courtesy of the author in exchange for my honest review.
