One Perfect Day by Lauraine Snelling

This is the story of two mothers, strangers to one another.

The first has two children--twins, a boy and girl, who are seniors in high school. She wants their last Christmas as a family living in the same home to be perfect, but her husband is delayed returning from a business trip abroad. And then there's an accident--a fatal one involving a drunk driver.

Meanwhile, the other mother has a daughter who needs a new heart, and so the loss of one woman becomes the miracle the other has desperately prayed for. While one mother grieves, and pulls away from her family, the other finds that even miracles aren't always easy to receive.

What a heart-wrenching and yet beautiful story! I laughed, I cried, and felt so much emotion while reading this story. It is hard to imagine the anguish of losing a child to a horrible traffic accident, especially at Christmas time. At the same time, it is difficult to understand how a mother can bear to see her child struggling to stay alive, just waiting for a heart transplant.

This is the story of two mothers, both wanting a future for their children. Even in the loss of her child, the one mother agrees to turn her grief into blessing other families.

I also enjoyed reading about the important role that animals had in both families. It showed the compassion and love that animals have for us, especially when we are hurting. Animals know when we just need a body close by for comfort, and they don't ask for anything in return. I highly recommend this book!

  1. This one definitely sounds like a tearjerker! I don't know if I could stomach it as I have a 19, 17 and 16 year old - all driving....need I say worry?!?
