Covenant Child by Terri Blackstock

Amanda’s heart broke as she watched them drive her beloved twins away. She resolved to hope . . . and to fight for them to her last breath.

Kara and Lizzie are heiresses to one of the largest fortunes in the country. But when their father dies suddenly, the toddlers are ripped from the arms of Amanda, their loving stepmother, and given to their maternal grandparents, who only want the children’s fortune for themselves.

While even the stipend their guardians get for supporting them is squandered, the children are left to raise themselves. Kara and Lizzie grow up believing they are worthless . . . until the day when they learn the truth.

Covenant Child is the first book I have read by Terri Blackstock, and I instantly put her on my favourite author's list. I absolutely loved this story!

Covenant Child was originally published ten years ago, and it is being repackaged and reissued in May, with a new chapter and other added material.

It is hard to imagine the anguish that Amanda went through, as her young husband died suddenly and she almost instantly had to fight for custody of her stepchildren.  Because she had never legally adopted the children, the girls are torn from her life.

It is horrible to think what people will do just for the sake of money. The grandparents did not care about the twins, all they loved was the money they could freely squander on themselves. But through the years, all that Amanda could do was watch from a distance and be ready to pick up the pieces of some very broken lives.

For a great novel demonstrating the unconditional love of a parent, check this one out, you won't be disappointed.
