A reissue of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Power Moms, this book contains 101 great stories from mothers who have made the choice to stay home or work from home while raising their families. These multi-tasking, high-performing women have become today’s power mom. This is perfect for book groups as it contains a reader guide.

I regularly get great Chicken Soup for the Soul books to review, and am always pleasantly surprised when I tear open a package when it arrives in the mail. I must admit that the latest book titled "Stay-at-Home Moms" made me feel a little apprehensive, as I didn't think I would be able to relate to this one.

I have never been a Stay-at-Home Mom, even though I always wanted to be one. When my daughters were little, I was a single parent for most of the time, and I always held down at least a part-time job. There never seemed to be enough time to do all the things I wanted to do, and of course, I couldn't help but feel a little jealous of other moms who were able to stay home full-time.

However, I was pleasantly surprised by how many of the stories I enjoyed from this book. Here are some of the main section headings, and there are at least ten stories in each section:

  1. Decisions, Decisions
  2. The Daily Grind
  3. Outside the Box
  4. Becoming a Specialist
  5. Working From Home
  6. Ladies Who Launch
  7. Gender Benders
  8. The Dividends
  9. Pink Slips
  10. Looking Back

I think the section that I enjoyed the most was the last one, Looking Back. I can look back on those early years with my children, and I choose to remember the good times. There are challenges for all Moms, whether they choose to stay home full-time or hold a full-time job outside of the home. Either way, parenting is hard work and rewarding too ... and this book is full of inspirational and funny stories that are shared from the heart of Moms.

This is a great book that would be enjoyed by Moms of all ages.

  1. The Chicken Soup books are often great, and this sounds like a good one. So far, my favorite in this series is "for the Gardener's Soul."
