The Quarryman's Bride by Tracie Peterson

Emmalyne Knox has always loved Tavin MacLachlan. But when tragedy strikes her family, Emmalyne's father declares she can no longer marry. Despite Tavin's pleas to defy the decision, Emmalyne refuses. In her act of obedience, she gives up the future she'd always dreamed of.

When Emmalyne's father returns to the quarry business years later, Tavin and Emmalyne meet again. And though circumstances have changed in both of their lives, they cannot deny the feelings that still exist. Can Emmalyne find a way to heal the decade-long wound that has fractured the two families...and change the hearts of those who stand in the way of true love?

Tracie Peterson is the award-winning author of over ninety novels, both historical and contemporary. Her avid research resonates in her stories, as seen in her bestselling Heirs of Montana and Alaskan Quest series. Tracie and her family make their home in Montana. The Quarryman's Bride is the second book in the Land of Shining Waters series. I love a story that transports me to another time and place, and the believable characters in this story made the journey definitely an enjoyable one.

Emmalyne made the ultimate sacrifice when she chose to obey her parent's wishes instead of pursuing her own hopes and dreams of a future with her beloved fiancee Tavin. She is broken-hearted, yet she dutifully supports her family.

Tavin reacts differently. He becomes a broken but extremely bitter man, and he basically abandons his family roots. This story picks up many years later and both Emmalyne and Tavin are forced to face their feelings for each other. Dynamics between their extended families also play a very important role in their relationship, both past and future.

The Quarryman's Bride is story of family devotion and forgiveness. It is about listening to God's promptings ... even when it takes a person out of their comfort zone. I highly recommend both books in this series and look forward to the next book, The Miner's Lady to be released in the fall.
